Keswick gears up for beer festival

Beer fanatics will soon be heading to the Lake District as the Keswick Beer Festival takes place next month.

Held on June 5th and 6th, there are still limited tickets available for the event, which is one of the top dates on the Lake District’s annual calendar.

Many people travelling to the area to attend the event will be looking for rooms in a 4 Star Hotel with an AA Rosette Restaurant – Borrowdale Gates is the ideal place to stay.

As well as beer, live entertainment is at the heart of the festival and a number of bands will be providing music over the course of the two-day event.

Among those set to perform at this year’s Keswick Beer Festival are Raw Spirit, Salvation, The Moobs, The Herdys and The Gatecrashers.

This year’s event will be the 19th Keswick Beer Festival and proceeds will be split between Keswick Lions and Keswick Rugby Club – those pints are for a good cause!

The 2015 Keswick Beer Festival also includes a fancy dress competition, with £25 going to the best individual outfit and £75 to the best group effort.

Keswick itself is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, with the area renowned across the country for its fell-walking, cycling, golfing and climbing. The region is also great for activities such as bird-watching and photography.

Thousands of people are expect to attend this year’s Keswick Beer Festival and the last few remaining tickets are likely to sell out fast.

110th anniversary of The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle

Beatrix Potter is much loved in the Lake District for her colourful tales about hedgerow creatures, complete with beautiful watercolour illustrations. This year marks the 110th anniversary of one of Beatrix Potter’s most enduring characters – Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.

Mrs Tiggy-Winkle is a hedgehog washerwoman inspired by Beatrix Potter’s own pet hedgehog, after whom the character is named. She lives in a cottage and in the story is visited by a human child, Lucie, who has lost her handkerchiefs. It’s an enchanting old-timey story set on Catbells, a fell in the Lake District and the perfect excuse to visit this beautiful part of the world in 2015.

In her time, Mrs Potter was not only a keen observer of nature but also an enthusiastic conservationist, buying up land to ensure that the Lakes’ natural beauty was preserved. She’s credited with having preserved much of the land that now makes up the Lake District National Park and left a lot of her property to the National Trust when she died.

Her home at Hill Top Farm remains open to the public and is the perfect way to while away a sunny afternoon. It’s full of her knick-knacks and you’ll spot references to pictures from her tales in every room. You’ll also find original sketches and watercolours at the Beatrix Potter Gallery in nearby Hawkshead.

Relax and enjoy your surroundings with a stay at the four-star Borrowdale Gates Hotel, perfectly placed to make the most of the Lake District’s hiking and cycling opportunities. It’s also just a short drive from the charming towns of Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere, where you’ll find the Beatrix Potter visitor centre.
